Selected Artists
The piece by Glenn Badlam is an impressive use of light. Although parts of the piece look intensely real, other aspects seem almost like a part of a dream. This artwork draws you into the scene of the painting as though you are walking along the path. I want to see what is around the bend, so I look deeper into the piece. I believe that is what the artist desired from the painting. He invites you to look deep and take in every colour, shade, and piece of light.
Among the most impressive aspects of this piece are at the top. The trees are meant to be in the background, but they become a way to bring you back into the main focus of the piece. They work as unsung heroes that make the art piece what it is. Without the trees, I believe the art would lack authenticity. Glenn Badham does an excellent job portraying light and playing with shadows in this amazing painting.
This piece by Emily Klima offers a unique view into the process of building a piece of art from the ground up. Artists often use various mediums and textures to make the final appearance of the painting exactly as they want it to be. Often, the process is hidden, but in this piece it is presented for the viewer to see and enjoy. The process is important and rarely seem by the viewer and it is refreshing to see a piece that values the process as well as the final look.
The mixed media and use of paper in Emily Klima’s painting is astounding and speaks to my soul. This piece is not just another painting, but one that enjoys the underlying process that goes through an artist’s head. A myriad of textures, feelings, and emotions permeate from this piece and it is one that can be viewed and appreciated over and over again.
With a piece like Battle, time and consideration must be given for every aspect of the piece. Each time you view it, you will see something different. This piece has expressive brush strokes that speak to emotion of the artist and the moment in time the art considers is one we have all been in at least one time in our lives. Colours seem chaotic, yet collective and I enjoy how brush strokes play upon one another to empower the spirited battle we all face on a daily basis.
Battle speaks to the soul in many ways and is an art piece that can be viewed from multiple angles to tell an ongoing story. Even though it depicts one battle, it includes little pieces that reflect the ongoing war that can be solely ours in our own mind. Colours that traditionally contrast are brought together in the piece to form a collective art scape that is truly unique and different.
